In an obese society our world is rapidly becoming, people are carefully watching what they are consuming and constantly eager to discover unknown, nutrient-packed foods. Our answer to this never ending search however has been among us for centuries: Milk.
Along with the Dairy Council in California, however, I simply consider it a much needed weapon for the war on obesity. According to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development when combined with a low-calorie diet, low-fat and fat-free milk will promote faster weight loss that a low-calorie diet alone. So why continually waste your money on dieting products that fail more often than they succeed? Instead, eat healthy foods and drink your recommended amount of milk each and every day. If you do so your body will thank you for replenishing it with a drink so packed with calcium, nutrients and protein.
In fact, NICHD promotes milk mainly for containing much bioavailable (easily absorbed) calcium, in comparison to spinach, sweet potatoes and beans. Further more, Connie Weavers, distinguished professor of food and nutrition at Purdue University, reported that one would have to consume two and one quarter cups of broccoli to obtain the same amount of calcium absorbed from one cup of milk.
