Three dead after two-vehicle accident
Three people are dead — two from Port Clinton and one from Fremont — and a Port Clinton man is in critical condition after sustaining injuries in a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Ohio 53 Sunday afternoon, according to the Fremont post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Killed were Carlene Baker, 51, of Port Clinton; Timothy Vance Sr., 45, Port Clinton; and Roscoe Cannon Jr., 58, Fremont. All three were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
Injured was Danny Barker, 55, Port Clinton. He was flown to Toledo St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center from the scene, troopers said.
According to the patrol post, Carlene Barker was driving south on Ohio 53 in Rice Township, north of Fremont, with Danny Barker riding in the front seat and Vance in the rear seat. Her 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix went left of center and collided head-on with a Honda CRV driven by Cannon. The Honda went off the road.
Danny Barker was freed from the Grand Prix using powered rescue tools, troopers said. He was wearing his seat belt, as were both drivers.
Troopers said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash that happened just before 2 p.m. in Rice Township, north of Fremont.
