The council is looking for a sponsor who will pay $2,500 to cover the cost to bring Santa to Sandusky on a horse-drawn sleigh Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving.
The donation would also ensure a reindeer night is offered Dec. 18 at the Cookie House in Washington Park, said Jules Bahnsen, a member of the council.
The day after Thanksgiving has been a Christmas holiday tradition in downtown Sandusky, and the reindeer night has been a popular event that kids look forward to, Bahnsen said.
Children are told the reindeer come from the North Pole, and they can pose for pictures next to the animals.
The Community Celebrations Council, in operation since 1985, runs three community events:
• The Citizens Banking Company sponsors the Stars and Stripes Celebration.
• The Presbyterian Church-Doersbach Fund pays for the Gazebo Concert Series.
• KeyBank sponsors the Holiday Lighting Ceremony, held downtown the day after Thanksgiving.
Now, the council is hoping another sponsor will take care of Santa’s sleigh and the reindeer.
If a donor is found, the council will do its best to publicize the donor’s community spirit, said Susan Sartor, president of the Sandusky Community Celebrations Council.
The organization has 501(c)3 charity status with the IRS. Anyone wishing to discuss a donation can call Bahnsen at 419-357-5488.

I'm thinking that this would be a good donation for Dick Kinzel. Lets see if he can donate his money this time and not Cedar Point's money for Sandusky.
wow !
I doubt it.
I need a sponsor too. I want to retire in Florida and paint seashells by the seashore. Hey I'm a poet; doesn't that qualify?
Not unless it has Santa and Reindeer on it. loL
Let him arrive on a fire truck and donate $2500 to care and share.
Stupid. How about donating that money to Victory Kitchen--they actually provide meals for those in need on Thanksgiving. Or, as reader suggested, Care and Share, which I understand has bare shelves right now.
And this: "Children are told the reindeer come from the North Pole"...way to teach children that it's okay to lie.
Santa is Real? Wow! My faith in imaginary figures is restored.
Sure Santa is real. And so is Batman, the Tooth Fairy and God. Right? The Bible said so!
Wrong.That's not true.
I want to see the kids enjoy their childhood like someone made sure I did but I don't have $2,500.00. Would my $5.00 help? It's about all I could afford on Social Security Disability? If so just contact me with an address of where to send my check.
We can add $25.00 to that, how about a Citizens for Santa committee just adding up a total fund? Why does it have to be a big shot giving it in total? So what if it comes in dribbles?
PLEASE MAKE YOUR DONATIONS TO ERIE COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION....SANTA'S SLEIGH. THANKS, ANYTHING WILL HELP.
$2500 to rent a horse drawn sleigh???? R u kidding me? Sounds pretty darn pricey to me. What happens if theres no snow on the ground for the sleigh then what-money gone? At any rate I agree with the others small donations add to make larger amts I'll donate $20
PLEASE MAKE YOUR DONATIONS TO ERIE COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION...IT'S CALLED SANTA'S SLEIGH. THANKS.
I'll throw is some dough. I like going downtown during Christmas.
PS: Shouldn't we keep the atheists from taking part in holiday sales? After all, isn't it because of God that we have the shopping season?
Santa Claus IS an atheist. He HAS FREE delivery. Nothing he brings NEEDS to be on sale because IT IS FREE.
Why do I feel like I just smacked a nine year old upside his back end?
ROFLMAO..
PLEASE MAKE YOUR DONATIONS AT ERIE COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION TO SANTA'S SLEIGH. THANKS
See, we raised a little over $50 without breaking a sweat and nobody is a bigshot, Jules. So I say we try and get the community involved. I am going to try and set up a little fund at my credit union for a Santa fund and see if they will agree to collect funds for this. They may even be willing to chip in a few bucks. I will go on Tuesday and see them.
Then we will have a place for people to send money for this.
At $25 a pop, it would only take 100 Sanduskians to come up with this amount. Because of work and the fact the majority of fellow employees request this day off to shop till they drop, I'll be unable to attend the traditional welcoming of Santa to Town. I may miss out on the tradition and festivities of the day, but I am more than willing to help bring a million dollar smile to the faces of our children and our children's children! I'll make a phone call after 9 a.m. for a mailing address. Can't imagine they would refuse the donations!
PLEASE DONATE TO THE FUND AT ERIE COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION CALLED SANTA'S SLEIGH. THANKS.

No thanks. We will give (anonomusly) to some desrving family or senior(s) . To us that is what Christmas is about. On..Santa/Satan. word scramble - you'll figger it out.
Santa can donate his time.
Thanks for the address. Maybe with enough donations there will be enough left over for Santa to have a little something in his sack to give the kids.
