The Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/V3JTjT ) reports that the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, north of Cincinnati, dedicated the 51-foot statue at a service Sunday night.
Nicknamed "Hug Me Jesus," the lighted statue depicts a full-bodied Jesus who's standing with open arms. It looms over the adjacent lanes of Interstate 75.
The previous statue that was ruined by lightning in 2010 was known as "Touchdown Jesus" or "Big Butter Jesus" for its creamy color. It depicted a waist-up Jesus with arms uplifted.
Sculptor Tom Tsuchiya received a standing ovation from the crowd Sunday night.

touchdown jesus begat hug me jesus.
church could have fed and clothed a lot of people with that money.
That is one big freaking Jesus. I thought his Father told us not to make idols?
A statue of Jesus is only an idol if you make it one. Just as a picture of your mom would be an idol if you worshipped it.
That was the point.
Agreed, Phil. When you spend that much cash on something and make it so big, I would consider it idolatry. JMHO. Not to mention, it holds no functionality whatsoever.
So would all the money being spent on the presidential and senate campaigns in Ohio!
Amen to that.
TRUST FALL !!!
GIANT ROBOT JESUS , ACTIVATE !!!!!!!!!!!
The great and powerful OZ already burned it down once. Guess they didnt understand.
Big Butter Jesus Lives!!!!!
Why don't people just start to act like Jesus rather than worshiping and idolizing him.
Amen, brother.
To follow the inner leading of the Spirit, is to worship or reverence the Divine from within one's heart.
Please consider accepting the free gift of forgiveness for sin, that God has provided through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ, if you haven’t already. It will be the single most profound action you will ever take.
@ thinkagain:
Didn't the Hebrews no longer sanction human sacrifice?
How is it that the Christians embrace this heathen and barbaric concept?
Space shuttle Jesus , your clear to launch in 5 , 4 , 3 ....
I woulda rather seen 'em build a large statue of "Buddy Christ":

This would be a opportunity to put in a "Mooby's" Franchise next door to give people a choice, People love choices.
The OT clearly states to make no idols.
Gotta luv the "Cafeteria Christians."

What do you care?
You're an atheist anyway, right?
@ 4shizzle:
So you like praying to idols?
re: contango
Did I say that?
What do you care?
You're an atheist anyway, right?
Oleo Lordy that's one big statue!!
Oh Promise! me there won't be a tornado that takes this one down.
Well, if this one falls over, at least his arms will break his fall, I hope. Why would ANYONE want to spend that kind of money on this? I am with those that say they could have fed a lot of people, housed them and clothed them. We HAVE to take a ride and see this...I just don't want it to fall on US.
You can't see it well enough on the picture, wiredmama? Why waste the gas and time?
I have to go to Cincinnati to see friends, might as well go that way. LOL
:)...May as well, wiredmama. Hope you stay in the Blue Ash area. Best part of that city.
We stay with our friend in Middletown actually just above Cinci. We love it there. It has grown so much since we first started going down there. What cracks me up is the little town of Blue Ball. I just laugh every time we go through it. Not big enough to write entering and leaving on the same sign, but there all the same. Then we go to the flea markets and drive down into Cinci and all around. Its so pretty down there this time of year.
