PORT CLINTON

Gaberiel DeFreitas of Port Clinton Middle School took home the title of best speller in Ottawa County on Tuesday night for the second year in a row.

He went up against 45 spellers from school districts across the county at the 16th annual spelling bee, presented by North Point Educational Service Center and the Ottawa County Cabinet of Superintendents.

After several rounds of eliminations, DeFreitas spelled "renaissance" for the win and clinching the title with the championship word, "Fahrenheit."
