Two benefit events are scheduled to help Ann Van Nort, a retired Sandusky teacher paralyzed from the mid-torso down after she fell down a flight of stairs in May.

The first benefit is 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at Chet and Matt’s Pizza, 1013 E. Strub Road. Tell your waitress or waiter than you’re there to help Van Nort, and the restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds.

The second event, the “Ann’s Road to Recovery” 5K run or walk, is 8:30 a.m. Sept. 30, with registration at 7:30 a.m. It’s at the Battery Park Marina Pavilion, at the end of Meigs Street in downtown Sandusky.

The registration fee is $20 on race day. Medals are awarded to the top male and female runner in various age categories.

Donations to help Van Nort can be dropped off at any PNC Bank location, or mailed to Ann Van Nort Rehab Fund, PNC Bank, 129 West Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.

Wonderful lady. She still keeps smiling in all of her adversity.

Kinda of puts our own personal troubles in perspective.
