As a long time member of Erie County Right to Life and a volunteer for heartbeat, I agree with Mrs. Chimera's letter about abortion exploiting women. Women don't usually "choose" abortion. They are pressured by boyfriends, parents, or life circumstances, and often they aren't well informed. Many times I have heard women speak about the horror of realizing, too late, that they were carrying a baby. They agonize, they mourn and some even name the baby. A mother doesn't just forget her child!

In 1973, when abortion was legalized, sonograms weren't available. But now we know that the little human heart is beating around two weeksafter conception; yet abortion is legal in America until delivery, and if President Obama has his way, it will be legal during delivery. He voted against the ban on Partial Birth Abortion, which is just killing the baby during delivery.

Now if that bothers you, please help support our local pregnancy centers -- Heartbeat of Sandusky and Abigail in Norwalk -- with your time and your money so they can provide women with information to make informed choices and the means to help them if they choose life. Also, contact Erie County Right to Life, P.O. Box 1385, Sandusky, OH 44871, and ask them to include your name in the full page ad that is run in the paper every January as a way of speaking out for the little ones who can't speak for themselves. Include a donation if you can. And lastly contact President-elect Obama and ask him to prayerfully reconsider his stand on abortion. After all, he claims to be against torture and it is a scientific fact the unborn babies feel pain. Just because we can't hear them cry doesn't mean we can ignore this. As Americans can't we love them both, mother and child?
