When one door closes, someone usually opens a window. For a few former automotive workers, that window came with no guarantees of a safety net below.
But it was a gamble they were willing to take.
So they left the security of a full-time job, with solid benefits, and jumped.
No longer able to work for someone else, they decided to become their own boss.
While some of their co-workers who left the plant with them were blowing their buyout money on new motorcycles or sports cars, they were learning to navigate a more unfamiliar road as business owners.
