SANDUSKY

Local youth will brave sub-freezing temperatures this weekend to raise awareness for the homeless.

As part of "Cardboard City," 60 youth from six local Lutheran churches will sleep in cardboard boxes tonight with limited blankets and food.

The event will take place in front of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sandusky, and the forecast calls for a wind chill of 24 degrees, with the possibility of sleet and snow.

"I'm nervous," said Sarah Kerst, 17. "It's supposed to snow. I think it's going to be an eye-opening experience for everyone."

All the children must raise a minimum of $50 to participate in the event, and all the proceeds will go to Volunteers of America's Crossroads program at 1843 Superior St.
