With the 2008 high school football season winding down and boys basketball still some five weeks away, Tom Whaley decided to borrow an idea from ESPN Classic.

TW Teleproductions is airing on its Web site a classic North Coast Game of the Week until the beginning of the basketball season.

Three playoff games -- the 1990 state title game between Bobby Hoying's St. Henry team and St. Mary CC, and the 1999 Perkins-Wickliffe regional title game and the 1999 Perkins-Ironton state championship game -- will be available at 8 p.m. each Tuesday for one week on northcoastgameoftheweek.com.

With the Web site gaining popularity, Whaley said he needed content until the start of the hoops season. Girls basketball officially begins Nov 28 and boys basketball tips off a week later on Dec. 5, when Whaley will remove the classic games.

But he might revisit the idea in late March at the conclusion of the hoops season.

"I will probably, after basketball, dig up the Perkins girls tapes when they went to state," Whaley said. The Lady Pirates went to the Division II state semifinal in 2006.

Typically shown on the Buckeye CableSystem on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Whaley said broadcasting the North Coast Game of the Week, which finished its 18th year on the air, on the Web allows non-cable subscribers a chance to watch the games.
