Erie County is ready to take the lead on lead poisoning.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded Erie County a $3 million grant to fight lead poisoning by removing lead-based paint from old homes, many of which are in Sandusky.

"The plan is to rehabilitate 220 homes over a three-year period," said Tim King, senior planner for Erie County.

The National Lead Information Clearinghouse offers information on lead at 800-424-LEAD, and at a Web site, epa.gov/lead/pubs/nlic.htm.SearchTag:Local News Stories
