Sandusky has found a way to beet high salt prices.

The city will use a mixture of beet juice and road salt when it snows this winter as a way to compensate for the skyrocketing cost of salt.

Salt has more than doubled in price during the past year, and city officials say beet juice works well as a de-icer.
