A former Huron police dispatcher who stole $5,200 from the department's fingerprinting fund avoided going to jail.

David Michel pleaded no contest to theft this morning in Erie County Common Pleas Court. Judge Roger Binette granted Michel diversion, ordered him to pay back the money by the end of the year and ordered Michel to seek counseling for a gambling problem.
