You could use a textbook to teach a bunch of fifth-graders what fish like to eat. But letting them look at a jar of tiny invertebrates really drives the lesson home.

Fifth-grade students from across Ottawa County ditched their school books Friday for a day of outdoor discovery at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and Magee Marsh.
