Unemployment in Ohio has gone up again, and now stands at its highest rate in more than 15 years.
The unemployment rate in Ohio was 7.4 percent in August, up from 7.2 percent in July, according to a news release issued today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
That's the highest the rate in Ohio has been since October 1992, when it also was 7.4 percent, said Brian Harter, a spokesman for the department.
The state unemployment rate in August 2007 was 5.7 percent.
As usual, Ohio's rate was a bit worse than the national number. The U.S. unemployment rate in August was 6.1 percent. It was 5.7 percent in July.
Statistics for Ohio counties will be released next week.
