After a lifetime of getting an education, working hard and playing by the rules my wife Leanne and I have achieved what many would call the American Dream. We have two wonderful children, a home in the countryside, and own a successful small restaurant in Milan.

But due to a pre-existing medical condition we are unable to purchase an affordable, decent health care insurance policy. We are among the nearly 47 million Americans without health care coverage. Luckily, we have coverage on our two young boys. The boys' coverage is expensive even though it carries high co-pays and high deductibles. It doesn't cover any pre-existing conditions. Therefore a 15-minute visit to our family doctor for a quick check up and to get an inhaler prescription renewed for our 5-year-old son recently cost us $170. This is in addition to paying a monthly premium!

Senator Barack Obama has presented a Universal Health Care Plan that would send a lifeline to the millions of folks that find themselves in a situation like ours. If elected President, Obama would make available a new affordable national health care plan to all Americans. This plan would be similar to the plan now enjoyed by members of Congress. A family could save as much as $2,500 per year in premiums with this plan.

The Obama plan would also create a National Health Insurance Exchange to help folks who want to buy a private health insurance plan.

In any case there is guaranteed eligibility. No American will be turned away from any insurance plan because of illness or pre-existing conditions.
