The cost of salt to clear ice from roads will jump sharply this winter.
When the Erie County Commissioners opened bids for salt at this morning's meeting, the one company willing to bid, Morton Salt, offered a price of $69 a ton for salt picked up from a stockpile in Sandusky.
Last year's price was $37 a ton. The bids were for 11,400 tons for the county, Sandusky, Huron and many local townships.
