PORTAGE TWP.

A Port Clinton man faces charges after a daredevil stunt in his 1992 Oldsmobile landed him in the Sandusky Bay.

Douglas P. McAtee, 47, 2200 block E. Harbor Road, Port Clinton, drove his vehicle down a private drive at a high speed and "intentionally jumped the vehicle into the water," according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. The incident occurred about 3 p.m. Tuesday near Lockwood Drive, according to reports.

A 17-year-old juvenile also faces charges in the case, Deputy C.W. Shuff said. The juvenile was not in the vehicle when McAtee made his ill-fated jump.

McAtee suffered undisclosed injuries and was taken to Magruder Hospital. He was later transferred to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, where he remained in the medical intensive care unit Tuesday night. A nurse said she had no information available on his condition.
