Thumbs DOWN to the Ottawa County Elections board for being "too busy" to provide specifics as to what will appear on the November general election ballot. Every other election board across the five-county region was able to provide the ballot information on deadline day, so there just doesn't seem to be a reasonable excuse. Being "too busy" to respond to a request for information indicates a "serve-the-bureaucracy" attitude rather than the "serve-the-people" practices elections workers should be following. Get your act together.
Thumbs UP to Terra Community College and the State Theatre for the partnership they've formed to give students in the arts programs at the Fremont college real-world experience in the make-believe world of performing arts. Partner, partner, partner. The college and the theatre have a message we hope local governments hear.
Thumbs UP to Jonathan Burkin, the Clyde teenager whose baton skills have landed him on "America's Got Talent," a TV program showcasing people with exceptional talent. And further kudos to him for whatever battles he's had to fight with people who don't think baton twirling is the sort of skill an American male ought to have.
Thumbs DOWN to not sending out your invoices. And now that Bellevue Municipal Court is getting around to billing Huron and Sandusky counties for court services, one can't really blame the two counties for seriously considering not paying. Hey, if you don't get a bill, why pay it? Take a tip from the freelance trade, folks: People don't take you seriously if you don't ask for what you're worth.
