Authorities are investigating “suspected human remains” found Tuesday afternoon in a grassy area in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Acting Perkins police Chief Robb Parthemore said a person, whom he did not identify, found a bone and notified police at 3:30 p.m. Police then called the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification for assistance.

Parthemore would not comment on what other remains were taken from the scene. Police centered their investigation on a small strip of grass on the south side of Wal-Mart, which is on U.S. 250 near the Perkins police station. They closed off the area with crime tape. Investigators remained on the scene for about four hours, Parthemore said.

“The remains are being sent out for analysis to verify they are, in fact, human and for possible DNA identification. The case is under current investigation, and therefore we can not release any further information,” Parthemore said in a written statement.
