SANDUSKY

A Sandusky excavation company seems to be digging itself deeper into the hole with safety officials.

Speer Bros., 3812 Old Railroad Road, was fined $28,000 for a willful violation of U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations after inspectors at a local job site April 25 observed unprotected walls of a trench used by workers. The company, in business for more than 30 years, was cited for similar offenses five times since 1982 and fined more than $250,000 two years ago, according to OSHA records.
