The Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Sandusky on Sunday.
The one-vehicle crash occurred at 2:42 a.m. near the intersection of West Washington and Shelby streets.
Charles S. McMurray, 35, of Sandusky was driving a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle suffered heavy damage.
McMurray was heading northbound on Tiffin Avenue near Camp Street. McMurray failed to negotiate the slight curve where Tiffin becomes West Washington and drove off the left side of road. He crossed Shelby Street and ran into the side of Joe Sundae’s on West Washington Street.
Witnesses were on the telephone with Sandusky police reporting the motorcycle operating in a reckless manner at the time the crash occurred. Witnesses also said McMurray had made several passes through the area at high speeds before the crash and that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
McMurray does not have a current motorcycle license.
Sandusky police and fire departments also assisted at the scene.
