HURON TWP.

A Great Mills, Md., teen is dead as a result of a two-car crash on Milan Road in Huron Township, according to the Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

William A. Bowman, 17, of Great Mills, was a rear-seat passenger  in an Eagle Talon that, according to witnesses, was being driven "aggressively" northbound on Milan Road when it went off the east side of the road, overcorrected, came back onto the road and crossed the median. It was then struck on the passenger side by a southbound Toyota 4-Runner SUV at about 6:24 p.m., troopers said. The Toyota overturned and came to rest in the southbound lane.

Bowman was flown by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

The driver of the Talon, David B. Carroll, 19, Waldorf, Md., suffered minor injuries and was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center by Huron EMS.

The front-seat passenger in the Talon, Christina L. Shepard, 20, of Hughesville, Md. was flown to St. Vincent with serious injuries, troopers said.

The driver of the Toyota, Kellie L. Wilhelm, 23, of Monroeville was taken to Firelands by Perkins EMS with minor injuries. Her passenger, Welles A. Meifert, 25, of Norwalk was also taken to Firelands by Perkins EMS with minor injuries.

Carroll, the Talon driver, was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and reckless operation, troopers said, and was booked into Erie County Jail pending bond. He is to appear at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Huron Municipal Court.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, troopers said.
