Joshua Rex couldn't accept Steuk's Farm Market as merely a pile of twisted rubble and fading scrapbook memories.
So he decided to capture its unique Sandusky essence in a series of paintings that would live on. Two weeks before the aged winery and marketplace was plowed under by heavy equipment, Rex, 28, took photos of its dilapidated features. Six of the images are now preserved in the gouache, a water-based paint with an opaque, flat quality. Rex considers them a memorial.
