PORT CLINTON

Port Clinton residents might soon see a $5.54 per month jump in their gas bills.

Representatives of Columbia Gas visited the city this week to explain the reasoning behind the bill increase.

Carmella King, a spokeswoman for Columbia Gas, said the company has filed an application with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio asking for permission to raise the base rate in late 2008. It would be the first such rate increase since 1994.
