GROTON TWP.

Three people died in a one-vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Groton Township on Saturday at about 10 p.m. according to the Milan post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver, Dwayne E. Snyder, 33, of Rebersburg, Pa., was operating a 2003 conventional semi, pulling a box trailer loaded with apples. Witnesses say he drifted off the right side of the eastbound roadway, struck a sign, continued on the adjacent grassy area and struck the Southwest Road bridge which passes over the Ohio Turnpike. The vehicle came to a rest underneath the bridge.

The driver and his two children, Chadwin K. Snyder, 10, and Derrick S. Snyder, 3, died at the scene. Because of the damage to the vehicle, it could not be determined if the occupants were wearing seat belts.

Due to the considerable damage to the bridge, Southwest Road was closed.

The crash remains under investigation.
