(BREAKING NEWS 12:33 p.m.): Erie county prosecutors have filed aggravated murder charges against a man for his alleged role in killing 50-year-old John Debski in his Wilbert Street home on Saturday.

Tommy Reogas, 34, who is held at the Erie County Jail on unrelated charges, faces a felony of the first degree for aggravated murder.

Debski's housemate, Gary Ballard, 40, who is also housed in the Erie County Jail on unrelated charges, has also been charged with obstructing justice.

Ballard called 911 on Saturday and told the dispatcher he found Debski without a pulse. (Listen to the call HERE). When police arrived they found Debski's body and a pool of blood nearby.

Lucas County coroners who performed Debski's autopsy determined he died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Additional charges are expected to be presented at the next Erie County grand jury session.

I don't understand how Ballard is getting the obstruction of justice charges by calling in the 911 call?  I figured they would charge the Reogas fellow, however.

I still say re-open the Don Martin file.

Concerned For A...

I posted in the initial story about the 911 tape. I thought that guy (Ballard), sounded awfully calm to have just "found" his roomate dead in a pool of blood. He must have had some sort of information about the case that he didn't initially disclose to the police in order to be charged with obstructing.

Seen it All

Well, another way to look at it.. Mr Ballard could of gave the wrong name to police, as it appears he was wanted on a warrant for him to be sitting in the can on unrelated charges.  That would get him an obstruction of justice charge.  Maybe also, that's why he sounded like he did on that 911 call, he was worried about going to jail on the unrelated charges.  I just find it hard to believe that if Mr Ballard was involved in any way, that he would call 911, and not just get out of dodge asap, but of course, stranger things have happened!

Wanna bet drugs are involved somehow?

I just listened to the 911 call........my question is why didn't the dispatcher give instructions for cpr?????  She just said someone is on the way!!  Was she positive there was no pulse???  Did he take the pulse in the correct spot??  If that was me on the floor or wherever I would want SOMETHING done asap...not someone is on the way.   If I was the caller I would expect more from the dispatcher!!!!  I call 911 for help and every minute counts!!  I think she could have done much more to help...you hear it all the time on news programs...why not here?  I am not saying he could have been saved,,,,  I am saying is this the correct procedure??????  I hope not!!!!

Any word on what brought this on? I live just houses away and it's very scary.  I'm so sorry to the Debski family. This is awful.

The real story will come out.  RIP John.  And prayers are sent for his family

My prayers are with John's family and with that said I am Tommy Reogas's family. You cannot believe everything that you read because you are only seeing highlites to this story. Tommy has made mistakes yes but until he tells me that he is guilty I will continue to say that this was a drug deal gone wrong and it was supose to be him sleeping in that bed that night instead of John. Because of Tommy's past he does look bad but the truth will come out. Until you know the entire story please do not jump on the gossip train and judge others. If he is guilty yes he deserves his punishment but until he confides in family that he did it then I will say he did not do this.

the choices one makes dictate the life that comes with it. Alcohol, guns and drugs are poor choices and never work out for the best. the preemptive comments about one's guilt or innocence merely reinforce that his actions speak louder than his words. My sympathies to all concerned. Walk in truth and live in truth.

Thank you reading signs. I have been struggling with wanting to post crude comments and you somehow persuaded me NOT to.

SupportforTR,

I know it's always easier to look at the bad in someone when something like this happens.  If you really are family you should be aware of the many beatings he has inflicted on his past girl friend.  She finally had enough and just wanted him to leave her alone.  You are right, he used to be a very, very nice guy but this isn't the same person you knew last year.

I mean no offense to the police department AT ALL but you mean to say that they could not tell this man had FOUR wounds to the back of his head?  You would see blood soaked hair for heaven sakes.  How could they have missed that?????   I really think they need some training in crime scene investigation if they missed that one.  They saw the blood on the floor and this poor man was face down on the mattress.  How could they NOT have seen it?   It makes no sense.

I sincerely hope his children, both here and elsewhere get some peace knowing the people involved are caught and will be brought to justice.

mommy2

There may not have been blood in the hair.  If there was blood in the hair it may have come from the blood found elsewhere,  From the way it sounds the blood came from the nose. It is the police job to collect the evedence and it is the job of a medical examiner to work with the body.   They could only release a small amount of evidence to the press so that they get the person responsable for this act to say something not made public.  This is how they know if someone was involved or at least knows who was involved.  There is a lot to this that the public is not aware of.  The police handled things the right way.  They called in the same trained individuals to handle the the investigation the way other police departments do.  I have police friends from all over the state and when I am questioning things I ask them.  They do the same thing in other towns and cities,  they even send the body to Lucas County for an autopsy.
