SANDUSKY

James A. Scally Sr., 88, of the Cedar Point Chaussee, died after a two-vehicle collision Saturday morning on the Chaussee.

Sandusky police had withheld Mr. Scally's identification Saturday night pending notification of his family. The Register received his obituary Sunday afternoon.

Sandusky Fire Department Capt. Bill Mohr said Saturday night an EMS squad was dispatched to the 900 block of the Chaussee, the block in which Mr. Scally's home is located,  just before noon Saturday.

"It looked like a gentleman in a Ford pickup truck was hit broadside, or T-boned, by the driver of a Chevy Trailblazer," Mohr said. "The pickup was struck on the driver's side and overturned."

The victim was removed from the vehicle by mechanical means and transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center. The driver and passengers of the Chevy Trailblazer refused treatment.

Mohr said the Chaussee was closed for at least an hour while officers and EMS personnel cleared the scene. Officers from the Cedar Point Police Department closed traffic at the toll booth, while troopers from the Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol monitored traffic from Cleveland Road.

Updated information, and Mr. Scally's obituary, will appear Monday in the Register and on this Web site.
