Area residents have one more option for fresh produce.

The area’s newest farmers market is Farmer’s Quality Market, which opened last week in the former 84 Lumber building on Milan Road.

“Everybody is loving it,” manager Alice Martin said. “We are doing really well.”

“Our goal is good quality, low pricing and quality service,” she said. The market is owned by Norwalk businessman Don Farmer, owner of Norwalk’s Finest Produce.

Farmer’s contacts give the shop a clear advantage in bringing quality food to the area at low prices, Martin said.

“We don’t want to be undersold,” he said.

Almost everything in the store is locally grown or made. The store carries hard-to-find items, including flavor-infused salts like Applewood smoked salt.

“That is great on chicken,” Martin said.

One market item not to be missed is the Twice Baked potato salad, sold in the deli.

“It’s my favorite — it’s our No. 1 seller,” Martin said.

The store carries produce, deli items, the Amherst-based Mama Jo’s pies and a unique line of coffees and teas.

And if customers don’t see something they want, they can request it.

“We have a clipboard by the register that asks, ‘What do you want to see?’” Martin said.

The store has already ordered items for the market, based on customer requests.

It took a year of planning and a complete renovation to bring the market to Sandusky.

“It was an 84 Lumber, so there was nothing inside,” Martin said.

The market takes up the front third of the large space. A checkered red-and-white floor establishes the country market presence, as does a red-and-white awning on the deli.

The rest of the space will be used to warehouse vans and meet other company needs.

Farmer’s Quality Market plans to host a formal grand opening all day July 14, when they’ll offer samples, sales and door prizes.

Cracked Cherry

Good quality produce at a reasonable price. They also have a nice cheese assortment. The staff was nice and asked if we were finding everything ok. Not to mention free bottled water because of the 97 degree heat that day.

Good 2 B Me

Went on Saturday. Good prices. Lots of delicious samples and merchandise. They apologized for the Air Conditioning not working yet, but had fans on and offered free ice cold water to help.

We all enjoyed it and bought many new things that we have not tried in the past along with some of the regular items, peppers, lettuce, etc.

I wish you all the best of luck! I know that we will be frequenting your store!
