Though gas prices are stunting travel plans this Fourth of July weekend, representatives of local attractions say they are optimistic the holiday weekend will be a success.
Jill Bauer, spokeswoman for the Sandusky/Erie County Visitors and Convention Bureau, said calls and visits to the visitors center have already picked up in July.
"The trend seems to be that people are traveling close to home this year," Bauer said. "So we're expecting more people from Toledo and Cleveland."
