STAND UP to OBAMA - TODAY, Obama will be SANDUSKY Ice Cream Social. The Erie County Republican Party will be holding a Rally for America to counter our "Regulator-in-Chief." At 2:00pm we will be rallying at Shoreline Park in downtown Sandusky (right next to Battery Park). At 3:00pm we will be leaving Shoreline Park to walk as close as we can to the event.

If you feel you are not better off than you were 4 years ago, if you aren't happy about the largest tax increase in our history being passed, if you don't believe Obama is taking this country in the right direction (socialism) then PLEASE SHOW UP.

If you've been talking the talk, its now time to walk the walk. Take 2 hours out of your day, bring your kids, explain to them why we are rallying/protesting and why it is so important to not just complain, but sometimes you need to act.

I will be there with my kids. I hope to see you there too.

The Big Dog's back

rick, you should be protesting your own party for being a do nothing House of Representatives.

Right on Big Dog!

Here’s just a short list of some of the bills that Republicans have blocked, or attempted to block, since Obama became President:

Tax on Companies that ship jobs overseas- A bill that would have eliminated a tax break that companies get when they ship jobs overseas. Republicans blocked this, allowing companies to keep the tax break they receive when they ship jobs to other countries.

Political Ad disclosure bill- Would have required all donors to political campaigns to reveal themselves. Republicans blocked this, not once but twice.

Subpoena Power for the Committee investigating the BP Oil Spill – Give subpoena power to the independent committee responsible for investigating BP’s roll in the oil spill. Republicans attempted to block this.

The Small Business Jobs Act -would give LOCAL, community banks access to billions of dollars to loan to small businesses. Republicans blocked this, then attempted to block it a second time and failed.

The DREAM Act- Gives immigrant youth who were brought here as children a path to citizenship by earning a college degree or serving the military for 2 years. Republicans blocked this.

Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”- Would have repealed the law that forces gay and lesbian services members to lie about their sexuality and gives the military the right to discharge soldiers based on their sexuality. Republicans blocked this many times and Democrats were finally able to pass it with the support of just two Republicans.

From Crooks and Liars - When John McCain led the filibuster of the Defense Appropriations Act yesterday, he blocked far more than the DREAM Act and repeal of DADT. Here are just a few of the other blocked provisions, courtesy of Mother Jones.

No permanent military bases in Afghanistan. Report identifying hybrid or electric propulsion systems and other fuel-saving technologies for incorporation into tactical motor vehicles. Protection of child custody arrangements for parents who are members of the Armed Forces deployed in support of a contingency operation. Improvements to Department of Defense domestic violence programs. Department of Defense recognition of spouses of members of the Armed Forces. Department of Defense recognition of children of members of the Armed Forces. Enhancements to the Troops-to-Teachers Program. Fiscal year 2011 increase in military basic pay. Improving aural protection for members of the Armed Forces. Comprehensive policy on neurocognitive assessment by the military health care system. Authority to make excess nonlethal supplies available for domestic emergency assistance.

And those were just some of the progressive provisions. On the conservative side, there are these, and more:

Prohibition on the use of funds for the transfer or release of individuals detained at United States Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Prohibition on the use of funds to modify or construct facilities in the United States to house detainees transferred from United States Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Prohibition on use of funds to give Miranda warnings to Al Qaeda terrorists.

And here’s the bills that Republicans had blocked when we compiled our first list;

Senator Franken’s Anti-Rape Amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill – Makes it so that women raped overseas while working for foreign contractors have the right to have their case heard in an American court instead of having their case mediated by the company they work for. Only Republican men voted against this, but it passed.

Benefits for Homeless Veterans- Would have expanded benefits to homeless veterans and homeless veterans with children. Republicans blocked this.

Affordable Health Care For America Act- Prevents insurance companies from discriminating against you on the basis of “pre-existing conditions”. Requires that insurance companies spend 85 cents of every dollar that you pay on your actual health care. Limits health insurance companies profit margins. Republicans blocked this for months before it finally passed and have vowed to repeal it if they are elected.

Health Care for the 9/11 First Responders who got sick from being at Ground Zero- Would provide billions of dollars in health care to help the 9/11 First Responders who were at Ground Zero on 9/11 and are now sick because of it. Republicans blocked this.

The Jobs Bill- Offsets the payroll tax for 1 year for companies that hire new employees, or people receiving unemployment insurance. Also gives other tax incentives to companies hiring new employees. Republicans attempted to block this.

Wall Street Reform- Puts stricter regulations on the banks, preventing them from becoming “too big to fail”. Curbs reckless spending practices that caused the banking crisis. Republicans attempted to block this.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act- Pumped billions of dollars into state and local Governments to prevent us from sinking into a second Great Depression. Republicans opposed this but now want to take credit for the parts of it that we know are successful.

Oil Spill Liability- Raises the liability on what companies can be made to pay to clean up after an oil spill. Republicans blocked this.

Immigration Reform- Republican suggested comprehensive immigration reform until Obama supported it. Now they’re rabidly opposed to it and even voted against their own legislation. Republicans blocked this.

Unemployment extension bill HR-4213- Would provide additional aid to the millions of Americans still on unemployment who are just trying to support themselves and their families. Republicans blocked this bill for 8 weeks before it finally passed. Republicans blocked this for 8 weeks before it finally passed.

Fair Pay Act of 2009- Also called the Lily Ledbetter bill. Requires that women receive equal compensation to men for doing the same work. Republicans attempted to block this.

The next time someone tells you that the Republicans care about the American people just give them this list of all the bill Republicans wanted to fail.

Reese, this is what it's like talking to right wingers.

At about the 90 second mark it starts.

OMG, I am laughing so hard I am crying!  It is really so sad.

I don't post on here trying to change the minds of people who have already been indoctrinated by simple political slogans, rhetoric, talking points and lies.  I hope that those who are not sure how to vote will at least think about some of the real things that have happened and continue to happen.  Try to give them a bigger picture beyond whether they were invited to the ice cream social.

DWOpfer

Great work, Reece.  Unfortunately "they" would rather listen to Limbaugh than do their homework.

Darrell Opfer

Isn't it sad that our democracy has evolved into such a campaign?  The goal of the "right" seems to be to eliminate democracy and substitute rule by corporatiions and the elite.  They have already invested in  "contributions" to buy control of OUR government.  Voters are bring urged Instead of doing their own thinking and voting in their own interests to follow right wing " prophets" like Limbaugh.

After stealing the Republican Party from its democratic principles and moderate leaders, these propagandists and those who follow blindly are now determined to seek total control the country and world for 100 years (Karl Rove). Can you recognize the name-calling ("tyrant" and Obamacare) and frequent repetition of lies ("socialism") and rote acceptance of radio and TV "leaders"  earning millions by "entertaining"?.   They  want to "take back" or return to government by an aristocracy of the wealthiest one-tenth of one percent -  exactly what the Founding Fathers and Mothers fought AGAINST.  The "Tea Partiers" of those days demanded British troops to protect their homes and property (which included the tea destroyed in Boston Harbor} and/or fled back to England or to Canada.  Rewriting history is a favorite propaganda technique used to maintain control over the history-challenged.

Using "code" is another popular technique to deceive voters.  "Socialism" is their current favorite which any one who knows what "socialism" is can easily refute.  "Big government" is code for let's eliminate all restrictions on business (such as reguired payment of overtime, 40 hour workweek, minimum wage and unmions) and recreate working conditions they like in China, India and Viet Nam.  Ditto for health and safety regulations, enviromental standards and the right to sue corporations.

Instead of demonstrating against something you are told to believe, why not spend the time listening and researching what is really happening and what is in your best interest?  The goals of the corporations, ultrarich, and their political allies are NOT!

DWOpfer...

Thanks for taking the time to post here.  It is a rough crowd sometimes.  I keep hoping putting some facts out there for people to see will help those who haven't been indoctinated with the right wing rhetoric will think some of this through.  I think Americans should have access to the facts before they vote.

All a person has to do is look at the people Nobama has surrounded himself with and they can judge his character. As Momma always said: "You are judged by the company you keep".

EZOB

Politicians have two goals, Number (1) To get elected, Number (2) Get re-elected.  O'Bama has fulfilled His number one goal, let's see How He does on number two.  He's been campaigning for 31/2 years to accomlish goal number two.  How many vacations? How many rounds of Golf?  How many days spent campaigning, not only for Himself but for the Health Care Bill and for important Democratic in the Primaries?  How many days has He actually spent in Washington D.C.?

The Big Dog's back
EZOB

O'Bama has succeeded in dividing this country, His visions of what He thinks of America has clearly been stated in not only words but in his book.  If you are both deaf and blind one could excuse that person but to not pay attention to what this Man says is unbelievable.  Win or lose come November this Country is doomed and it will be a lot worse before it gets better.  People can argue all they want but the "Free" money is going to run out and there is no "Free" health care.  People will realize this all to well in the next couple of years and they'll still be blaming Bush.  Most of us know the 8.2% unemployment figure is really closer to the 14.9% that has been reported.  The 8.2% is on the people who applied for benefits in the last month where as the 14.9 figure is accounting for most who benefits have run out.  The number of un-employed continues to increase and all this from a President who promised to lower un-employment or be a one term President.  I can't say it any better than Hillary Clinton, He really don't know how to tell the truth, "Drink the Cool-Aid".

The Big Dog's back

Obama divided the country? Really? The tea baggers had nothing to do with it right, let alone your regular racists?

Super Judge

liberals hate America and most of them are happy that Sept 11 2001 happened!

"Citizens United" is the death kneel for Democracy. It MUST be repealed and the sooner the better.

Super Judge;
