For years health experts have warned against going out in the sun without applying sunscreen or wearing a hat for protection from the dangerous ultraviolet rays of the sun. Apparently, the message is not resonating.
Erie County ranks among the top counties in the state when it comes to rates of melanoma per 100,000 people, according to a study by Ohio Department of Health.
To help combat the problem the Erie County General Health District has launched an aggressive public information campaign warning against the dangers of skin cancer. As part of the program it offers free skin screening with its Skin Scope machine.
