A tragedy happened in our neighborhood.

But the real tragedy is that the Sandusky Police will get away with their story. I read in the Register that a vicious dog was shot and killed. The animal was a beautiful chocolate lab owned by a good family, the Whites.

The paper said the dog charged them several times before they shot him. I was there. Three cruisers pulled up at once, and seconds later, and by seconds I mean about two, the horrible sound of a 9mm handgun rang out. There was no time for Sir Snickers to have charged several times, not to mention they did not even attempt any other way of stopping him. Pepper spray is a mighty powerful agent in stopping a dog immediately, or a taser, but they were not employed. There was definitely not enough time elapsed to have tried anything but lethal force.

Necessary? I don't think so.

There were children in the house witnessing the scenario just feet from where Snickers was shot. What if, God forbid, the bullet had exited the body of the dog and gone into the home? This dog could and should have been restrained with pepper spray, but he is dead. He was beautiful, he was loved, and now he is dead. Thanks for the "protection," SPD.
