DANBURY TWP.

Native Americans bowed low in prayer while sweet grass and sage burned in an open fire.

The tribe's chief spoke his native tongue, blessing the ground where his ancestors lie.

Using a pipe filled with sweet herbs, Wyandotte Nation Chief Leaford Bearskin blessed the final resting place of an ancient tribe Wednesday. Although the blessing took place amid a large-scale housing development, it wasreminiscent of ceremonies performed centuries before.
