Area residents can thank gas prices for hurting their pockets in more ways than one.

As of Monday, the price of a first-class postage stamp increased a penny to 42 cents for all mail weighing 1 ounce or less.

Andy Keen, Sandusky Post Office supervisor of customer service, said the rising cost of gasoline played a part in the new stamp price.
