It's a good news, bad news scenario in Vermilion these days.
The Downtown Vermilion Streetscape Plan, a constuction project to beautify a portion of Main Steet and Liberty Avenue in the heart of the city, is nearing completion, Mayor Jean Anderson said. The project includes installing new curbs and sidewalks, trees and historic light posts.
Wednesday much of the downtown still looked like a war zone with orange barrels, dump trucks and construction vehicles dotting Liberty Avenue. Construction workers in bright green shirts were also spotted toiling on the project. That's the bad news.
The good news is that in a couple of weeks it should look much better, city officials say. Just in time for the summer tourism season.
"We are doing very nicely," Anderson said.
