A retired Sandusky firefighter and paramedic says he's dealt with disaster on many levels -- but he was still shocked by the devastation he saw upon entering Little Rock, Ark., earlier this week.

Patrick Burns is one of more than 100 American Red Cross volunteers stationed in the southern state that was ravaged by at least 10 tornadoes last week.

After receiving a call Monday morning from Red Cross officials, he was packed within a few hours and on a plane flying out of Cleveland that day.

Though Burns had already assisted with three hurricane relief efforts and numerous flooding assignments, he said the aftermath of the tornado was distinctly different.
