Man, 75, dies after being hit by van driven by 74-year-old

An elderly Green Creek Township man died doing the thing he loved most.

Ernest L. Pruitt, 75, was ridinghis bicycle Monday night when he was hit by a van. He was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where he died from his injuries at 9:45 p.m., according to the Fremont post of the State Highway Patrol.

"He rode his bike every day," said Kimberly Frederick, Pruitt's middle daughter. "My dad never took a pill in his life. He wassupposed to outlive us all."

Pruitt was riding his greenSchwinn bicycle about 5:40 p.m., heading southwest on Sandusky County Road 185, east of Town-ship Road 228 in Green Creek Township, when Elmer J. McClanahan, 74, of Green Springs, hit him with his 2001 Ford Econoline E-350 full-size van.
