An Erie County Board of MRDD van driver was fired Monday after he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence while on the job.
William L. Miller, 54, 500 block of Linden Way Drive, stopped to pick up a client at about 2 p.m. at Double S Industries, where personnel smelled alcohol on his breath, the sheriff's office report said.
Miller was tested at Firelands Corporate Health as a condition of his employment, and his blood alcohol level registered above the legal limit of .08 percent. According to Miller's work schedule, he had started driving the van just after 9:30 a.m., the report said.
Between then and 2 p.m. he was scheduled to transport seven people, Capt. Paul Sigsworth said. He had driven throughout the city and Perkins Township, and went as far as Groton Township.
