The Register's editorial of April 10, regarding the "win-win" situation of a new YMCA, is in keeping with the beliefs of the Board of Directors of the Erie County Chamber of Commerce.
At their February meeting, the Chamber's directors voted unanimously to endorse the YMCA's endeavor to build a new facility on Hayes Avenue.
It is the consensus of the members of the Chamber's Board that such a new facility will be better positioned to serve the needs and interests of the citizens of the Greater Sandusky area, and will be able to do so in a more efficient manner. A vibrant, successful YMCA is one of those organizations that contributes to the quality of life of a community, and is one more asset that may be utilized in a community's economic development efforts.
Like any organization, Sandusky's YMCA has had its "ups-and-downs", but has served the community quite well over the years. The effort to secure a better, more centrally-located facility will continue a tradition of service to the community.
