Have any of those with negative opinions been in the Pump recently? There are no smoking signs everywhere. Thousands of dollars have been spent on remodeling and bringing the building up to code. The Pump has more exits than most bars, restaurants and theaters in town. For the safety of whom?

The owner of any establishment has limited control of where their patrons park. If they are illegally parked on the side of the road, ticket them; more money for the township! If they leave drunk and obviously can't drive, ticket them; more money for the township! Of a fight breaks out and the police are called, ticket the fighters; more money for the township! But if taxpaying citizens are just trying to run a profitable business, that obviously provides an enjoyable source of entertainment to everyone from 21 to 101, don't harass the business. Work with the owner to make everything safe and orderly. What happened to free enterprise and allowing people their own choices?

This same "fire trap" many are so quick to condemn, has raised thousands of dollars for charities and schools. Benefits have been held within all legal guidelines from licensing to parking. They have provided bus and taxi services on many occasions. It has never been the intent of the owners to disregard the safety of its patrons or ignore the laws of the township. I suppose I would be upset if I had to be called in at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night, but isn't that part of the job? Help us all to be good neighbors in Perkins Township. Work with the businesses, not against them.
