Where's the (tainted) beef?

Not here, school district food service coordinators say.

Nearly a half ton of beef and taco mix were thrown out in Huron and Erie counties after Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Co. in Chino, Calif., voluntarily announced the recall of 143 million pounds of beef.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the raw and frozen beef had not been properly inspected.

Federal authorities estimate40 million pounds of the questionable beef went to school lunchprograms.

"It's gone," Bellevue Food Service Director Jackie Hess said. "We destroyed our supply immediately. We only had about nine cases."
