SANDUSKY

A Norwalk man accused of trying to run over his ex-girlfriend and her son with a pickup last month has been indicted on two counts of attempted murder.

Joel Deleon, 32, first block of N. Pleasant St., is also charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count of vandalism.

He is being held without bond at Erie County jail.

Deleon was arrested Feb. 2 after the incident at Super 8 motel on U.S. 250 in Milan. Deputies said Deleon crashed a borrowed 1993 Ford F-150 pickup into a room at the Super 8 motel on U.S. 250 in Milan. The truck nearly hit his 37-year-old ex-girlfriend and her son, sending debris flying.

The woman, who escaped serious injury, ran to the motel office and called 911 while Deleon fled the scene on foot, heading to a mobile home park several miles away, reports said.

Deputies found Deleon in a wooded area and used a Taser to subdue him. According to reports, Deleon was upset about a breakup and failed attempts to reconcile with the woman.

Alcohol is also believed to have played a role.

Motel personnel declined comment on the repairs to the motel room.
