Thumbs UP and a pass-in-review flyby to Dale Hartlaub of Perkins Township, who won't let the Tin Goose be forgotten. One room and a hallway at his home is a shrine to the slab-sided bird. The Goose is inextricably woven into this area's history, and people like Hartlaub are a testament to that.

Thumbs UP, again, to the State Theatre for letting us sit in on the job interviews for a new conductor. This Saturday at 8 p.m., prospect Allan R. Scott promises a musical tour of the 20th century.

Thumbs UP and a decision to Matt Fisher, Cody Magrum, Chris Phillips, Dawson Riedy, Hunter Steiber, Logan Steiber, Kirk Tank, Cam Tessari and Keith Witt -- our local high school state champion wrestlers.

Thumbs DOWN to the thought one person can take care of dozens of dogs, cats and other pets. Taking on too much can be admirable, but not when lives, even non-human lives, are at stake. Now Donna Dennis of New London faces charges, and dozens of animals must be nursed back to health.

Thumbs UP to one of our own, photographer/video journalist Abigail Bobrow, who tapped a vein of long-suppressed curiosity with her video documentary of the 40-year-old Cassidy murders in Milan Township. The overflow crowd Sunday at the Huron Public Library prompted a second showing -- and a flood of questions and reminiscences from the audience.
