To the modern eye, the Ford Trimotor is an ungainly-looking antique. The “Tin Goose” rumbled to its destinations using three engines — one in each wing and one in the nose.
But to Americans who love the romance and the adventure of early aviation — people like Perkins Township resident Dale Hartlaub — the old Ford is a thing of beauty.
Hartlaub, 55, maintains a kind of private museum to the Ford Trimotor that puts many public museums to shame. A bedroom and hallway in his two-story house is filled with carefully-organized Tin Goose memorabilia.
