There was a time when foreclosures were so uncommon that Jenne Jones, the foreclosure expert with the Huron County Clerk of Courts, needed extra time to file one.

So seldom were they filed that Jones was not too familiar with them, said Susan Hazel, Huron County clerk of courts.

“When she started (22 years ago), I would say that foreclosures were a novelty,” Hazel said.

How things have changed.

One-third of the 1,403 new filings with the clerk of courts in 2007 were foreclosures. To put that in perspective, the total number of filings in 2000 was 975, Hazel said.
