Is sexual preference something to be taught?

Area parents, administrators and teachers have varying opinions on whether teaching students about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues could make a student lean toward that way of life.

“There’s no way ... I’d let my child be educated about gays and lesbians,” Castalia parent Brian Taylor said. “That would be like me saying, ‘Go on, go ahead, I want you to be gay, son.’”

However, several gay/lesbian advocacy groups are approaching schools with suggested curriculum material.

Sex education is a very touchy topic, Bellevue health teacher Julie McCann said.
