Okay, for all you town folk out there who feel rural private property should be taken at will by the Erie Metroparks...here's a great way to put YOUR money where YOUR mouth is. Why not donate a chunk of your yard or a chunk through your yard, or your back deck to the MetroParks. Seriously, you can donate your property for their use, as a park, a walking trail or whatever. After all, the general public in your back yard or exploring your property "Really isn't hurting anything", and that property really holds no value because it is "just a yard, riverbank, floodplain, back deck, etc..."
Perhaps the MetroParks would then be satisfied with these generously donated mini parks and leave the River Road residents alone. Oh, and maybe you could arrange to be denied access to your property, and continue to pay the property tax on this property for a period of, let's say, 12 to 15 years. Sound ridiculous and un-American? "That would never happen here"? River Road residents thought it was ridiculous and could never happen here. But here we are ... so here's your chance, park lovers, to prove your commitment to Erie MetroParks by donating YOUR chunk of land. We will eagerly await the opening of these newly donated mini parks though your generosity. By the way, does anyone know just how much this entire project has cost taxpayers to date, including legal fees?
Holding on to the American dream!
