U.S. law enforcement officials this month handed over a suspected cartel hit-man captured in Sandusky to Mexican authorities.

According to information released Monday by U.S. Border Patrol, agents at the Sandusky Bay Station arrested Edgar Campos-Barraza on Jan. 5 near Sandusky where he is believed to have lived for the past decade.

Agents arrested him on a warrant issued by Mexico charging him with aggravating kidnapping and criminal conspiracy. Campos-Barraza is also suspected in other crimes, including the murder of a police officer in Baja California, Mexico.

Sandusky Border Patrol agents, working with agents from San Diego, were able to locate Campos-Barraza, aka "El Cholo," in Sandusky. Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted with the arrest.

During interviews with agents, Campos-Barraza admitted to an association with the Sinaloa drug cartel, one of the most powerful criminal organizations in Mexico, according to Border Patrol.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Fisher praised the "outstanding work and collaboration that went into this arrest."

Campos-Barraza was transferred to San Diego on April 12 and handed over to Mexican law enforcement.

How's that for those of you that think we don't need a Border Patrol in this area. And no, it has nothing to do with Common Pleas Court, or the so called corrupt Cuyahoga County officials, or land deals in Erie County.

BEHAPPY

Way to go!

Only took them a decade to find him....better late than never I guess.

"arrested Edgar Campos-Barraza on Jan. 5 near Sandusky where he is believed to have lived for the past decade."  why didn't the border patrol share some information with the local police? 10 years?

Kudos to the border patrol but I still wonder why they followed my wife home one day!  Born and raised right here in the good ol' USA!!

@Cityslicker

We do need a BP in this area!  You are right, has nothing to do with the court, land deals or corruption.

We still don't need border patrol.  Police could have arrested and turned him over to other officials just as easily.  Why start a completely new type of force?  Next there will be checkpoint police-and don't think I'm just kidding.  You'd better have your papers.

If this guy was on a boat going to Kelleys Island they would have caught him 1/2 way across the first trip over. If they missed him the Coast Guard,Division of Watercraft, Sheriff's boat,City of Sandusky PD boat or Kelleys Island PD boat would have caught him.
