Tired of the comments readers post on the Register's Web site?

Well, the Register's Web team is putting you in charge of cleaning it up. As of Tuesday, there is an added "Report Abuse" link to every comment.

"It allows you to tell us to take a closer look at this comment and it allows you to tell us why," said Nicholas White, Web director.

White said he hopes the online dialogue about local news becomes more of a conversation and less of a screaming match.

All comments will still have to abide by posting guidelines, but the added feature will help to further facilitate proper discussion.

"Hopefully this feature will let the community decide for itself what it wants to be," he said. "It's kind of gross for us to come in and say, 'This is what you can say, and this is what you can't.' This allows all of us together to decide how we should behave and how we should react."

On any given day, between 75 and 390 comments on articles are posted on sanduskyregister.com.

"We could absolutely not review all the comments," White said, adding that the department does its best to clean up the site, but is looking forward to readers' help in that area.
